Valerie Ann Gray
Professor, Presenter, Author, Sensitivity Reader, Consultant, and Conscious (Servant) Leader
Professor Valerie Gray is a nationally and internationally recognized presenter with more than 40 presentations to colleges, conferences, and organizations. Her speaking engagements focus on belonging, diversity equity, inclusion, English studies, history, and technology. She continues to conduct research on these subjects to present innovative approaches for attendees. Valerie also teaches college courses in composition, business writing, technical writing, professional writing, and literature.
A prolific author, Valerie has written nonfiction children’s books and college textbooks. Her authoring credits include two nonfiction books for Enslow Publishing: Jason Kidd: Star Guard and The Court-Martial Trial of West Point Cadet Johnson C. Whittaker. She had two biographies published for the African-American National Biography, Harvard University.
Her textbooks include Avoiding Plagiarism: Communicating Your Message with Academic and Professional Integrity (2012); Business Writing for Today and Tomorrow (2017); and a collaborative Open Educational Resources book with English faculty colleagues titled, Business Writing for Everyday Use (2021), available through Libretexts. In addition, Valerie has reviewed and edited several English studies textbooks.
With her diversity and inclusion expertise, she has conducted sensitivity reads for author Tamara Girardi's young adult novels Gridiron Girl and Disorder on the Court.
